Create Your Story in 3 Sentences 5-Day Challenge

Day 2 Training - Begin with the beginning

Every story has 3 parts:

  • Beginning - sets the context
  • Middle - the meat of the problem/challenge/obstacle
  • End - what happened as a result of that problem/challenge/obstacle

On Day 1 you listed the problems/obstacles/challenges that have been significant in your life and decided which one - just one - of them is at the heart of your story.

The first sentence of your story sets the stage, gives the context of that situation. It includes:

  1. Who - the person or people who are important in this story in addition to yourself
  2. When - a timeframe like a year, your age at the time, a time period like your pre-teen year, how many years ago, etc.
  3. Where - at home, at school, in a vehicle, at work, etc.

This sentence gives the context, the setting just before you encounter the challenge/obstacle/problem.

Day 2 Homework - Your beginning sentence

Now it's time to put the Who, When and Where together into your first sentence.

Remember that the idea is to do this as clearly and as simply as possible.  You won't be able to share all the details and that's okay. You're just looking to include the most important pieces to set the stage for what comes next.

Post your first sentence on Facebook in the post that says Day 2 Assignments. That will get you entered into the drawing for the prize for the day.
